Eyelid lift
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) corrects the bulges and wrinkles around your eyes, resulting in a more rested and youthful appearance. It may also relieve the eyes from the excess weight of redundant skin, leading to less eye fatigue and an improved field of vision.
Eyelid surgery can also be performed
on fairly young individuals to correct
hereditary heavy eyelids. This type of surgery is also popular among people of
oriental descent.
Eyelid surgery can be performed with little discomfort under local anaesthesia if you are a reasonably calm person (e.g. if you are not too nervous in the dentist's chair!).
The incisions are made along the natural folds of the eyelids, where scars are least
visible. The excess skin and fat are then removed.
In some cases, the incision is completly hidden on the inside of the lower lid.
For closure, absorbable sutures are used.
Immediately following surgery, you may experience some tearing, itching, dryness, irritation, eyelid fatigue and drooping. You may develop tiny pimples along the scar line. Do not be alarmed. These symptoms tend to disappear within a few days to a
few weeks.
Because this operation is not carried out on the eye itself, but on the eyelids, visual impairment is a very remote possibility.
